7U Summer Travel Baseball Info!

It is time  to start making Summer Travel baseball plans! If your son or daughter is interested in continuing to play baseball at a competitive level after the Spring Rec season, it is time to plan for the commitment required for Summer Travel baseball.

You must visit www.gbll.org and register your player(s) by clicking the green “Register Now” button on the top right by June 1st to be included for consideration for Summer Travel Baseball at the 7U level. While payment is not mandatory to register for Summer Travel consideration, payment will be required for both the Shack Bond and the Travel Registration fee prior to the start of the Summer Travel season.

The Summer 7U Travel league is a fun coach pitch/kid pitch mix similar to our own "AA" Division. Half the games are home in Green Brook and half are away. Games are anticipated to be on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Practices are TBD and will be determined by the team manager. Games will start on approximately June 20th and go thru approximately July 27th

Summer Travel Objectives

Offer a Competitive Baseball program that enables each District and Travel Baseball player to attain maximum skills development, while having lots of fun!

Place players at the appropriate District and Travel team level determined by the player’s baseball skill and ability through independent evaluations along with Player Agent’s input

Provide opportunities for capable and committed players to improve themselves through excellent coaching and strong competition.

Compete against teams from other municipalities in district play, area leagues and tournaments, as well as some out-of-region, high-profile tournaments (older age groups).

Provide a positive learning experience to enhance a player's overall personal development.

Travel Team Registration, Evaluation, and Placement:
Depending on the number of players who register, there may be evaluations held in order to detemine team placement in early June. Input from the League’s coaches will be a component of the evaluation process. There may be only one 7U team, two 7U teams, or one 7U team with a practice-squad that will not play in all games depending on player interest and number of coaches that volunteer.

Frequent schedule changes are to be expected due to weather and changing dates in leagues and tournaments, so players and parents must plan to be flexible. Prompt and regular attendance is a must for all Travel players. Parents must plan summer vacations to avoid conflict with practices and games.

Eligibility and Details:

All Players who registered and played in in the GB Baseball Spring Rec program are eligible for the Summer Travel Team(s).

Age is defined as the player’s age on April 30th  of that year (must be born on or after 5/1/2009 to be eligible for 7U).

Summer baseball is  competitive, and is intended for players interested in playing at a more competitive level than our Rec program. Players must commit to attendance at all games and practices. (It is recommended that no vacations be scheduled for players during the months of June and July)

Player selections will be based on the resulting evaluation and positional roster availability. Players will be evaluated at various positions (1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, P, OF)

The Summer Travel Baseball Fees are $100 per child which includes uniform costs. There is no shack bond for 7U. There will be no refund of the basic Travel Baseball registration fee for any other reason than not having enough players and managers to form complete teams..

Sportsmanship and teamwork are the two cornerstones of Green Brook baseball. There will be zero tolerance for poor sportsmanship or degrading a fellow team mate. This applies both to players and parents.

Managers and Coaches:
Managers for Travel teams will be selected by the GB Baseball Board and consideration will be given to coaching skills, experience and the ability to foster a positive team experience. In addition, managers and coaches must exhibit good sportsmanship and represent Green Brook and the communities of Green Brook Township in a highly civil and supportive manner when competing at home and in other area communities.  The Managers, from the previous years, will continue to support the club based on their commitment to the program unless they opt out or they did not adhere to the league  standards.  If a candidate wants to be considered, he or she must contact the player agent.

For additional questions, please contact the PLAYER AGENT

For all those intersested in summer travel baseball, please register in the system for Summer ASAP. We are extending the deadline two days to 5/21. After that registration will be closed and your chance to play summer ball will have passed. Even if you registered for Spring Travel, you must also register for Summer to continue playing.

Parents of eligible 7U players (birthdate between 5/1/10 and 4/30/11) should be aware that we also plan to have a 7U Summer travel team that will resemble the game play in the AA division – mostly coach pitch but some kids pitch too.  More info on the 7U team will be sent shortly. Parents may register their player in the 8U bucket for consideration for the 8U team, with the understanding that they will be placed on the 7U team if the 8U team is full or based on the recommendation of the Player Agent.

Parents of 13U and 14U may register under the 14U bucket.  While we only anticpate having a 14U team, that may be adjusted based interest. Players need not have played in Spring to Register in the 14U bucket.

The 9U and 10U Summer Travel Teams are set from the tryouts held in the Fall of 2017. If you have any questions, please contact the Player Agent.

New 2018 Bat Standard

GB Baseball Families,

As you may have heard, all youth baseball organizations will be switching to a new bat standard in 2018. The new bat standard replicates wood bat performance with the goal of standardizing this performance across all levels of play. This is NOT Green Brook's rule but rather it was enacted by all major youth baseball associations including Little League & Cal Ripken.

All current bats (other than wood) in use will not be eligible in the 2018 Rec or Travel seasons. All bats for next year must have the "USA Baseball" certification stamped on the bat. DO NOT BUY A BAT AT THE END OF THIS SEASON AS IT WILL NOT BE PERMITTED NEXT SEASON.  New bats from the manufacturers will be available on 9/1/2017.  Make sure the USA BAT logo is stamped on any bat you purchase.

There is an excellent explanation on Little League's website that can be viewed here:
2018 USA Bat Standard

Additionally, Easton also has a good FAQ section:
Easton New Bat FAQs

At this time, we do not anticipate new bats being needed for TBall Division.  The Coach Pitch Division and Higher should be prepared for the new bat standard starting 1/1/2018. As you will see in the links, 14U may still be exempt in some cases. New bats are NOT needed for the 2017 Fall Ball season.

While this information may take some getting used to initially, the goal of standardization should ultimately be beneficial to the game. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or another Board Member.

Regards,

GB Baseball Board
