Field Work Is ON For Tomorrow! 8 AM!

***We need people to bring chainsaws tomorrow as well***

GB Baseball Families,

Our League was built on the foundation of VOLUNTEERS as we need your assistance in maintaining and enhancing our community baseball complex. The operation of our all-volunteer league and the concession stand (THE SHACK!) at Green Brook Fields continues to require family support. Accordingly, it is mandatory that GB Baseball member families fulfill two volunteer requirements – a "Field Work" bond AND a "Shack Work" bond. The bond part of the requirements is a fee that is paid if the family does not work the required hours. If the hours are worked, then there is no additional charge to the member families beyond the registration fees. There are different work/fee requirements for the Field Work and Shack Work bonds.

Field Work

Field Work bond volunteer time is accomplished through general maintenance work during March before the season begins in order to prepare the fields for the season. The per family Field Work bond requirement is 8 hours (may be split across multiple days or across multiple adults from the same family) or the bond is $120. If a family does not complete the required field work hours before the season, a check for $120 must be given to the player’s manager before that player will be permitted to play in any games. Please come to the GB Baseball fields during one of the days listed below and check in at the table in front of the Snack Shack. The address of the GB Baseball complex is 10 Highland Street in Green Brook (next to IEF school).

This year's Field Work days are:

Saturday 3/17 (Leaf Blowing/Raking Day – No Shack Clean Up)           8 AM to 4 PM

Sunday 3/18                                                                                    8 AM to 12 PM

Saturday 3/25                                                                                   8 AM to 4 PM

Sunday 3/26                                                                                      8 AM to 12PM

We need volunteers to bring Leaf Blowers (first day only), Branch Cutters, rakes, shovels, or tool sets to help assist. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AS IT HELPS KEEP THE LEAGUE'S COSTS DOWN! Please consider helping in this way.

Team Managers are exempt from the Field Work bond requirement and Team Coaches receive 4 hours of credit toward their work bond. Also, please note - there is no Field Work requirement for families with a player in T-Ball only.

Field Work days are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Additional days may be added if needed. Announcements regarding both will be sent via email.

If you have already paid your Field Work bond using the Optional payments from the registration menu, please disregard this notice as you are exempt from working for this season.

Shack Work

Shack Work bond time is accomplished throughout the spring recreation season by working a total of 6 hours in the snack shack. The Snack Shack bond of $60 was paid upfront at the time of registration.  An email will go out soon with instructions on how to sign up for your Shack Work volunteer time on the www.gbll.org website. In order to receive your bond money back, you need to work a total of 6 hours (usually two 3-hour shifts) and will be paid in cash at the end of your shift at the rate of $10 per hour worked. If you do not work some or all of your Shack hours during the season, the difference will be kept in order to fulfill the Shack bond requirement. The last day to fulfill the Shack bond work requirement for the season is June 8th. Managers and Coaches are NOT exempt from Shack duty.

The SHACK Sign-ups will be posted on www.gbll.org shortly and an email will go out notifying everyone that sign-ups are open.

T-Ball & Coach Pitch League FAQs

For those who are new to Green Brook Baseball Club, here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:What activities does the registration include?

A: First, there are FREE Winter Clinics at an indoor facility in the months of February/March for those that register early. No additional registration is necessary for the clinics. Then, once the teams are chosen, there are some practices before the season starts.  Then there are approximately 12 regular season games.

Q: When is the season?

A: We hope to start games around April 9th but that may be delayed due to a severe winter. We will go to approximately June 5th.

Q: When are the games played?

A: There is usually one game on Saturday morning/afternoon and another game on a weeknight at 6 PM. The day during the week may vary due to weather and scheduling.

Q: My player is 5 years old and has no experience with baseball. Where should she/he start?

A:  T-Ball (Introduction to Baseball) is the best place to start and get ready for the next level. It is a lot of fun!

Q: My player is older than the TBall age but doesn't have a lot of (or any) baseball experience. Can they start in the Coach Pitch League?

A: Absolutely! The Coach Pitch League is an instructional environment where kids can learn fundamentals while playing the games.

Q: Do you need managers/coaches/Team Parent/volunteers?

A: Yes! We are an all-volunteer league with many parents pitching in to make a great season of baseball for the kids. If you would like to help out, please email the President on the "Board" tab.

Q: Who can I contact if I have a question?

A: Reach out to any Board Member  - they are happy to help!

New 2018 Bat Standard

GB Baseball Families,

As you may have heard, all youth baseball organizations will be switching to a new bat standard in 2018. The new bat standard replicates wood bat performance with the goal of standardizing this performance across all levels of play. This is NOT Green Brook's rule but rather it was enacted by all major youth baseball associations including Little League & Cal Ripken.

All current bats (other than wood) in use will not be eligible in the 2018 Rec or Travel seasons. All bats for next year must have the "USA Baseball" certification stamped on the bat. DO NOT BUY A BAT AT THE END OF THIS SEASON AS IT WILL NOT BE PERMITTED NEXT SEASON.  New bats from the manufacturers will be available on 9/1/2017.  Make sure the USA BAT logo is stamped on any bat you purchase.

There is an excellent explanation on Little League's website that can be viewed here:
2018 USA Bat Standard

Additionally, Easton also has a good FAQ section:
Easton New Bat FAQs

At this time, we do not anticipate new bats being needed for TBall Division.  The Coach Pitch Division and Higher should be prepared for the new bat standard starting 1/1/2018. As you will see in the links, 14U may still be exempt in some cases. New bats are NOT needed for the 2017 Fall Ball season.

While this information may take some getting used to initially, the goal of standardization should ultimately be beneficial to the game. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or another Board Member.
